Assessments, Counselling, Therapy, and Support
For Families in Port Moody & Across BC Canada

Our service always starts with an in-depth conversation with you and your child, which will inform us on the best steps to help them with their mental health needs.

Sessions can be done individually or in groups, while always involving you, the parent or caregiver. We offer counselling for children and youth, couples, and families.

Evidence-based Therapies

Treatments we can provide include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, play therapy, and even dog/pet therapy, all using a child-led approach.

Home and Community Visits

Our team works closely with local school staff, family doctors, and other mental health practices in the community to evaluate how your child is doing and provide support when it’s needed.

 Occupational Therapy for Children

Our Occupational Therapist helps children and youth to lift the barriers they face when it comes to their life skills, emotional well-being, abilities to do daily tasks, and self-esteem.

Parent-Child Interaction Therapy

An evidence-based way for you as a parent to receive hands-on support as you navigate your child’s behaviours, while reconnecting with your child in a healthy, loving way.

School Visits

Children may need a little extra support when it comes to school. We’re proud to serve the schools in our community of Port Moody BC and beyond by visiting and training the teachers.

Social Skills Support

Your child/youth is welcome to join our Social Skills Support program, designed to improve their social skills, empowering and preparing them to build strong peer relationships.

Support for Parents and Caregivers

Our team will work with you as your child’s parents/guardians/caregivers to build on your parenting strengths, give you new strategies, and help you navigate your life journey.

Trauma-Focused CBT

An evidence-based therapy designed to help your child/youth and your family understand and process traumatic experiences by giving you the resources and skills you need.

Virtual Services

For families, children, and youth who for any reason are not able to visit our team or our clinic in person. We can support your child virtually in Port Moody and across BC Canada.

Would you like to help your child thrive outside our clinic’s regular hours? We provide workshops for children, youth, and families as well as a social skills group.

Parents Recommend

"We came to Bright Star because we needed help with our daughter. Sonja’s warmth and kindness made us all feel at ease right from the first meeting. She helped my daughter manage her anxiety and become so much more confident. We can’t say enough about Sonja’s skills.”

Dr. Tuyet Nguyen

“As a pediatrician with 30 years of experience, I have been always impressed with Sonja’s astute assessment of children with mental health issues. I always enjoy her uncanny sense of looking at problems from a different angle. Sonja goes straight to the heart of the child with lots of compassion and understanding.”

“... our family has found our joy again through counselling. Our son was very angry and getting in trouble at school. He was able to trust Sonja very quickly and always looked forward to play with her in her wonderful bright therapy room. We are so thankful to have found her.”
