Family Assessments

At Bright Star Counselling, we provide thorough, compassionate, and evidence-based family assessments to support families, legal professionals, and the courts across British Columbia. Our approach prioritizes both the well-being of your child and the best interests of your family as a whole.

Our assessments are guided by current family law standards, clinical expertise, and a trauma-informed approach—ensuring that every child’s voice is heard and every parent’s perspective is carefully considered.

Why Should Families Undergo an Assessment?

Family assessments are a valuable step toward understanding the needs, strengths, and dynamics within a high-conflict family. They provide a clear picture of how family members are functioning individually and together, highlighting areas of resilience as well as areas where support from a family therapist is needed.

How Family Assessments Work

Specializing in Section 211 Reports and Voice of the Child Reports, Bright Star Counselling focuses on understanding each family’s unique dynamics while prioritizing the well-being and best interests of the children involved.

During assessments, we draw upon current research and best supportive practices for families and children to ensure each assessment is both clinically sound and family-first. Through this process, we bring fair insight and compassion to family situations that are complex, helping families move toward a life of stability and healthier parent-child bonds.

Who is in Charge of the Assessments?

Reports are only provided by Sonja Friedland, a registered social worker, or Ayesha Azfar, a registered clinical counsellor. Both Sonja and Ayesha are experienced family therapists with over 10 years experience working with high-conflict families.

Whether you’re navigating separation, custody, or parenting arrangements, we deliver clear, balanced, and professionally written reports to help families and decision-makers move forward with confidence and clarity.
